DAYS AND MONTHS ARE TRAVELERS OF ETERNITY.

Above is a quote from Japanese poet Matsuo Basho about his views on humans' lifelong desire and need to travel. I felt it was appropriate to remember this year. The quote comes from the following passage, which I read in a study about two Japanese anthropologists who tried to understand American culture by living in central Wisconsin.

"Days and months are travelers of eternity. So are the years that pass by. Those who steer a boat across the sea, or drive a horse over the earth till they succumb to the weight of years, spend every minute of their lives traveling. There are a great number of ancients, too, who died on the road. I myself have been tempted for a long time by the cloud-moving wind - filled with a strong desire to wander."

Somehow, as usual, my Japanese class is the only thing that keeps me trudging through this week. I was spending 8-10 hours on homework each night (because I didn't work on it over the weekend :( ), and because I had some late-night coverage stories for the DN, I didn't leave the copy/news desks until 11 p.m. Starting hours of homework at midnight is painful. :( So is 2 hours of sleep x 3 days + maybe one nap.

But now I can breathe, and before I knew it, I had hit another amazing landmark in the countdown - 80 DAYS!

Um, my life's been kinda boring, so that's all I have to say.
